Sam

Sam

Around the end of fall I was waiting to hop onto the 71B to get to Shady Side. A short, Arab man, approached me and asked me where I was headed. At first I was quite hesitant to answer him because it probably is not the best idea to tell a stranger where you are going. But I answered him confidently and when I told him where I was headed he seemed quite confused. His accent was very thick and I could hardly understand what he was saying, but he told me that he was not from Pittsburgh. So our conversation began and he told me his name was Sam. Sam told me that he was from California and he was visiting his brother here. He told me how confusing the city was to navigate and I chuckled then happily agreed with him. He told me how he visited a lot of places through the city already and that he was unsure of where he was to go next. I told him many other places to visit and he seemed really excited to go and see more of the city. It was probably only 2:30pm when I met him and he told me that his brother did not get off work until 5. I felt bad for him in a sense and I thought about taking him with me to Oakland, but I did not and I sometimes wish I had. We talked for a good 15 minutes while I waited for my bus and he told me a lot about his life. I wish I remembered more of what he had told me but it was probably 3 months ago now since I met him. I think about Sam too when I wait for the bus, hoping that he will come back one day and he would remember me and our conversation.
